No quote given upfront, then a $500 invoice for a small job.I needed a smart relay connected to my hot water circuit. I supplied the relay and it was already mounted, so it only needed the final connection. The owner told me he would do the job himself and had done these before. On the day, he sent someone else who was unfamiliar with the install and spent a lot of time on the phone. Though he was polite and the work itself was fine.No price was given before the job. The invoice came to $500, more than double the two other quotes I had for the same work (both under $200). When I questioned it, there was no explanation for the amount and no apology. It was simply dropped to $180 once I showed him the other quotes.To me, a price that falls from $500 to $180 that quickly had little to do with the work done. Get a written quote before letting this business start anything.
