My daughter's wedding was yesterday, 6/7/2025, at Morningside Inn. What a gorgeous venue. It's a family-owned venue in a stone building on 300 acres with a lake out back, in view of the ceremony, whether inside or outside. The venue provides in-house catering, bar service, and day-of coordinator, making those things much easier for the planners (in this case, mother and aunt of the bride). Once we'd chosen Morningside Inn, we were invited to a tasting, where they offered a healthy sample of their entrees and sides. Also at the tasting were outside and in-house/recommended vendors (DJ, Cake, Photographer, Videographer, and Flowers). We felt very comfortable choosing their in-house vendors, as they all are so familiar with Morningside Inn. For example, we chose Melanie at Retrospect Designs for photographer and James Bonato Video, LLC as videographer, and they worked very well together, knowing exactly how the other one works. They were unobtrusive but there for all of the shots, helping direct big group shots, fun preparation shots, etc. I would highly recommend hiring them both. For flowers we chose Flowers By Wendy Carol, who is also in-house. About 20 minutes before our ceremony, we had a radar huddle to decide whether we could have it outside or if it would rain. We had peace of mind knowing Morningside Inn provides a beautiful ceremony either way, but the ceremony was called for outside and it was beautiful. Wendy and helper moved the silk flowers by each guest row to repurpose in the dinner center pieces, and they were beautiful. So I'd also highly recommend Flowers By Wendy Carol. For the wedding cake, we went with Sage Cakery. Ahead of time, I'd ordered a tasting box of different cupcakes that Sage shipped to Chicago so my daughter and her fiance could choose the flavor. We got a smaller three-layer cake along with cupcakes for the ceremony, and they were absolutely delicious! Sage is also highly recommended by me. For our DJ, we went with in-house Soundsations (Mark was our DJ), and I'm so glad we did. Mark was great at announcing things and directing folks, but most of all, he was excellent with the music. We had a mix of maybe half college-age folks and half the next generation older. Mark kept that dance floor full with great songs, even getting on the floor to show us how a group dance is done. Younger folks were going for it on the dance floor, but older folks danced as well, and there were some good slow dances included. In case you can't tell, I highly recommend Soundsations as well. Lastly but not leastly, Shannon our Day-Of Coordinator, who had also directed the rehearsal, was there throughout the wedding, making sure the events flowed smoothly. She was gracious, patient, and charming. We're just so amazed how well the wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, lunch, dancing, and send-off went. Clearly, my experience wasn’t an isolated incident; Morningside has known about these issues for years and still failed to take action. If Shannon was struggling with coordination back then, and was later removed from weddings due to stress after my event, why did Morningside continue assigning her to weddings at the expense of their clients’ experiences?Lesli’s Attempt to Shift Blame to Me:Instead of taking accountability, Lesli has tried to shift blame onto me, claiming that my “planning tool” was incomplete. However, the severe issues I encountered had nothing to do with the planning tool. The real problem was Shannon’s lack of familiarity with my wedding details, failure to review the seating plan in advance, and inability to follow the agreed-upon timeline. If she was missing information, that was an internal failure on Morningside’s part, not mine. As a client, I expected the coordinator assigned to my wedding to be fully informed, and that was clearly not the case.Unethical Attempt to Silence Me with a Legal Agreement:To make matters worse, when I requested a fair resolution, Morningside attempted to pressure me into signing a settlement agreement that contained even more restrictive legal terms. The agreement would have banned me from ever leaving a review and even held me responsible for what my wedding guests or family members might say about their own experiences. This is not only unethical—it may also violate federal law under the Consumer Review Fairness Act (CRFA) and Maryland consumer protection laws. I think the venue is great, the food is good, and the scenery is beautiful. I will say that they told us we could get in 3 hours in advance for a Sunday, we had it on the paperwork, I confirmed several times, and they were still not ready for us - thus throwing our timeline off for photos. I wasn't able to get my family photos done before the ceremony and that meant we had less time for couple photos after the ceremony. Doing a first look is a must with this venue because of the time constraints. They did lose/didn't add some of my items from the wedding back into our boxes and wouldn't let my mom check the back to make sure we had everything. (edit: Lesli was kind to message me later and provide me a refund for the lost items.) Having to drop off items the Thursday before is a bit stressful, but it will be done at that point! They set it up themselves and they did a good job on our wedding. Just a few things that went wrong for the day. I wish they had let us meet our day of coordinator before the rehearsal, I thought we had one person and it ended up as another person. The coordinator, Shannon, did a great job though! I provided an emergency contact so I am not sure why they thought trying to get a hold of me at that time was the best idea. The biggest issue I had was with the coordinator- she left half way through the wedding, gave signals to the DJ to cut off the music while I was in the middle of walking down the aisle, she ignored the bridal party’s request to turn on some air in the bridal room (was almost 90 degrees that day and humid), and was not very present. I remember attending a wedding at Morningside for my husband's cousin and I remember how beautiful it was. We made an appointment with Leslie the venue planner and came to tour the place. Leslie was unavailable so the sweet owner Jeanie helped us with the tour. The tour was wonderful, we got to see the whole venue, the groom/bridal suites, went over the logistics of it all. While we were talking logistics, I had already made up my mind that this was it, we will get married here. Once we narrowed it down, the planning began. Leslie was very helpful in helping us plan and get all the vendors lined up and went over all the options for aesthetics.The planning process can be very tedious and exhausting but with Morningside it was easy breezy. They had a list of their own vendors which really helped where I didn't have to go search in the huge sea of vendors. First, we met with Chef Tim who generously accommodated us for a private food tasting for the menu items we were interested in. He took out time from his busy schedule to cook up our meals and serve them to us hot. Then on to flowers, (Wendy) was amazing. I had an initial consultation with here where we went through the planning process. She wasn't pushy at all and gave me ideas and tips. Next, I was able to hire a photographer (Melanie) who I was impressed with when I met her at the group tasting in January. The DJ (Jim) was phenomenal, he did a great job MC'ing the event, provided great music, stayed on track, asked questions if he needed clarification and handled the dance party very well. All the in-house vendors were very helpful and made sure they met my needs.The wedding day came real quick and I was very excited and not worried at all about how things were going to come all together. I trusted Morningside's capability to put together an amazing party for us. Yes, I was nervous about saying 'I do', seeing all our family and friends and making sure no kid got lost but it all came together at the end. All of our guests were impressed with the ambience of the venue, the beautiful outdoor background, the setup, the staff's service and most of all how everyone felt the magic of just being there. I had nothing to worry about, if things were placed in the right area, if the food was displayed correctly, if the flowers were up, was the cake ready. They took care of everything, not one thing was out of place, I can't think of anything that didn't go as planned. I had no issues at all and if there were last-minute changes they were taking into consideration.A big thank you to Morningside for making the Butler wedding a hit. The venue is absolutely beautiful, our pictures look like they came from a magazine, the food was delicious, the servers were quick, effective and friendly! While the venue was amazing, our coordinator, Dawn Hewitt, was rushing us around at about 8pm. Telling us we were behind schedule and needed to get downstairs while we were mingling with our guests after dinner. We went downstairs, (I guess I am to blame for this) as I was trying to hand out vendor tips mid evening after seeing how our vendors showed up for us and wanted to share my gratitude with them before the evening started to end and get crazy between dancing on the dance floor, saying goodbye to guests and us leaving. Dawn ensured us that we pay a service fee for many things; the service fee she said included the Morningside Inn staff are responsible for cleaning up/packing up our decor/centerpieces etc and we were supposed to give Dawn a phone number of who would be driving their vehicle up of the front of the venue at the end of the night for the Morningside Inn staff to load our vehicle with all of our boxes that they had loaded for us! That sounded incredible to me when searching for venues as I have been to many weddings where the wedding party has to stop partying a little early to help clean up. Well… we tipped Dawn around 8:45, for her to leave promptly after receiving her tip. We paid an extra $1,000 to have the venue for an extra hour at the end of the night… for us to no longer have a coordinator. Our event was to end at 11, we had no coordinator for the last 2+ hours of our event. The flip flops that we provided for our guests dancing feet were not placed by the dance floor, the cake knife that we provided was missing, our favors were not placed out in time for guests to receive them as they began leaving, other things were falling apart and there was no coordinator to be found. My husbands groomsmen, some of my bridesmaids, my husband, my parents and my parents-in-law all had to clean up and load boxes into our own car all while some of my bridesmaids tried to distract me so that my day wouldn’t be ruined. (Husband of the year for finding out and stepping up, trying to make sure I enjoyed myself! Of course I found out but not as soon as I would have if he hadn’t stepped up!) All in all, it was a good experience. But a wedding coordinator that walks out early from an event is a wedding coordinator I would recommend never hiring, as she turned a great experience into just a good one. Very disappointed and heartbroken that the night ended the way it did. Gail, at Morningside, was the one who informed my husband that Dawn had left, and asked my husband what she could do to step up and help. I commend her tremendously and truly appreciate her doing what she could with the information she had in such a fast moving situation! Less

We had our wedding in November this past year at the Morningside Inn. It was a scenic venue that was absolutely breath taking. The food was good too! It was nice that this venue included the place for both the ceremony and reception, as well as the catering and bar. There were no additional fees for tables, chairs, glassware, set up or tear down which was nice too. Now comes the reasons why we couldn’t bring ourselves to give it 5 stars. Our wedding was great despite some challenges we had with our coordinator. We initially met with Lauren who was fantastic, she was very informative, understood our budget, provided us some tips about planning our special day, and explained things well. We were planning our wedding from Chicago where we lived at the time and so our primary form of contact was through email. Eventually we were assigned a wedding coordinator and passed from Lauren to Melissa. Melissa from the short time we had communication with us was nice. However, then we were passed off to Shannon. It was a little frustrating to plan a wedding in the first place from far away, but it grew tedious having to explain all of visions and requests repeatedly every time they changed coordinators. Eventually Shannon became our final coordinator. We communicated frequently with Shannon but due to the busy season and her only working weekends it was a challenge at times. We flew to Maryland for our planning meeting and met with Shannon. She was nice, thoughtful, and helpful. She was also thoughtful of our budget and assisted us to make our day special without breaking the bank. However when it came to the final month of communicating and planning it became challenging. In the week before our wedding she had not yet requested our list of vendors to coordinate with them so I asked her about it and she received it but did not make contact with any of them before our day. Unfortunately this led to the cake people arriving late, and our DJ calling us the day before our wedding with questions about the set up there (no couple should have to be dealing with these things before their special day). Eventually the DJ got ahold of someone else to answer his questions. When we showed up for rehearsal Shannon was late and all of the changes to our wedding party and the arrangement of walking down the isle was totally forgotten. I know she is planning and running weddings every weekend but it was upsetting to have to tell her about who was no longer in the wedding party (even though we sent her the guest list and communicated with her a lot) and all of the details. All she went by was her sheet with notes from when we had our planning meeting and never even corrected it with updated changes. Everyone found it challenging to tell her how we wanted the decor, and to request things. I had multiple members of my wedding party who found Shannon cold, bossy, and had this “I know best” attitude disregarding how the bride and groom wanted things to be. She didn’t coordinate well with our DJ so he was coming up to us asking us when to play certain things because she didn’t go over the timeline with him beforehand. After the ceremony Shannon disappeared to the back office. Dinner ran too long and people were done eating and getting up but didn’t know what to do. So between us on our day and our wedding party we kept coordinating when to send people places. Including cake! We asked her when and she said oh whenever you want. She went from micromanaging the ceremony to abandoning ship. It was strange. A collective consensus of everyone who dealt with her agreed that maybe she has been doing this for too long. She has lost her considerate nature and traded it in for bitterness. We had a wonderful and beautiful wedding that was special despite Shannon. I recommend this venue but I recommend to them to hire people who treat every wedding with attention to detail and not another check they can cash. Less

I experienced absolutely no stress at all. They did everything for us, we just had to show up and prepare ourselves! Morningside Inn is beautiful and the food was delicious. Don't use the florist that is on site terrible experience with them. Hopefully they are no longer there. The only thing I wish was different is more time to set up personal touches. The wedding planner was still setting up when people were arriving.... More

We just had our wedding here last Sunday. Nothing can be said except that this venue catered to our every need and make every effort for our guests to enjoy the event to its fullest. The view speaks for itself if you like the nature-y and open field look with sounds of flowing water. The food was outstanding; top 2 best catering for weddings that I have been to. They even allowed us to order a special cocktail as a beverage and many guests added a little something else to the mix on site. It was a hit! Our coordinator Lauren, God bless her; you want a coordinator that is just enough involvement and just enough hands-off, then she is perfect. The price is reasonable and worth every penny. I also recommend using the vendors onsite. We used An Elegant Affair by Lisa (Monday) for flowers and The Crystal Lenz (Lanie Kinz) for photography.
