Last night we checked out Hawker Buns Singapore Burger Cafe on the Bedford highway, where Attithi used to be. The signage still says Attithi, until you get close enough to see the big signs in the window. A real sleeper that's worth trying if you like new flavours. Not too spicy, not "weird" but super tasty and like nothing else I've had in Halifax. They have unique burgers, and started as take-out only, but have expanded into traditional Singaporean foods. Singapore has a really interesting cultural combo of Malay, Indonesian and Chinese communities.Bright and clean seating area, and lovely hospitable service. Hubby had the roasted Hainanese chicken over rice, I had the salted egg fried chicken, with coconut rice and we shared crispy eggplant. The salted egg sounded scary, but it was a delicious creamy rich sauce on crispy chicken bites. Really hard to describe--but really tasty. And rice? You know how rice is usually the "filler" that's good for mopping up sauce? I started that way but realized the rice needed to be its own bite because it tastes SO GOOD and you probably won't be able to figure out why. (I couldn't.) I also loved the iced milk tea, can't remember what the menu term was, but it was great. These folks love sharing their hospitality and this great food. I really want to see them thrive so I can keep going back and eating there! Check it out, you won't regret it.
