It has taken me quite a bit of time to write this review. I should have written it in November when we were able to sit at our Thanksgiving dinner without worrying about our dog ruining it by getting into the food. I just couldn’t find the right words to express how Alessandro training our dog, quite possibly saved our marriage or at least my sanity.
Backstory, we have a 2 year old bluetick coonhound. If you are not familiar with this breed, they are the Chocolate lab of the hound family. They are beautiful, intelligent, hyperactive, chewers, revenge poopers, separation anxiety having, loyal to a fault, sweet, but saucy animals. We used another trainer when she was 6 months old after home training wasn’t working, that failed and we felt swindled out of money. We tried home training again and we tried doggy daycare. She was chewing everything, howling non stop, sever separation anxiety from my husband. She was growling if you tried to move her. Growling when there was food around. She never bit anyone, she was never “aggressive” until one day she bit one of my friends sons. She did not break skin, but she hurt him and that was my breaking point. Either she gets training, and we get training, or she is being sent to a farm in Alabama to learn how to hunt.
Long story short, we called Alessandro. He was the only trainer that never said “Well, she is a hound.” He came to our home and spent a few hours with us during the consultation and even began training her there. It was AMAZING to see how she was responding to him, and to realize that she wasn’t really the problem. We were. That is always step one I think. Alessandro was completely professional. He was honest from the start and said some dogs are not meant to be pets, they are meant to be working dogs. Opal is one of those breeds. Through his board and train program we had multiple meetings at our home, and parks. When you hire Alessandro, you don’t just invest in him, you invest in your loving pet, and also you invest in yourselves.
Alessandro is the real deal and worth every single cent. Opal was counter surfing, she wasn’t listening, or recalling. After Alessandro’s training, we sat at the Thanksgiving table without worrying one bit about the dog. Life is never perfect, but it has been a lot less stressful since Opal came home from training. We love our girl and always have, but now we can enjoy going out with her and knowing how to prepare not only her, but ourselves as well. We know how to be proactive and prevent her from getting riled up when she sees another dog and wants to play and pull on the leash. We know how to react if she gets loud in the car as a dog is walked by or there is another dog in a vehicle next to us.
Trust me when I say this. You do not need to look any further. Do yourself a favor and call Alessandro with State of Mind K-9. You will not regret it.
