I dropped in today at check mat and I’m so happy I did! I’m travelling from New Jersey and I wanted to get some good training in and that’s exactly what I got. The owners are both super friendly and welcoming and we did some passing drills which I really enjoyed. Even the facility was really spacious and clean! If you’re looking to train in phoenix / Scottsdale area I highly recommend! Thank you again for having me !

We've been meaning to put our daughter in jiu-jitsu but weren't sure which one. We got recommended CHECKMAT, glad we did. I was nervous that my daughter would shy away and not want to participate. But on the first day, she was welcomed with opened hands and they showed her what to do step by step. Even though she was hesitant at first. She absolutely loves it and is excited to go everyday. I was in town for 6 weeks due to my wife’s surgery and treatment at the Mayo Clinic and needed a place to train. I’m glad I found Mayko and Karen’s Checkmat academy. From the start they were awesome and welcoming. Everyone there was friendly, and it felt like family. You can really tell that Mayko and Karen are world champions, and they have the ability to pass those skills on to their students. Their students are very skilled and competition oriented. I trained three times a week during my stay, and every class was excellent. I took away some new drills and made some new friends. Thank you Mayko and Karen!
