The coachel (Andrew) breaks down complex techniques into simple, actionable steps while focusing heavily on safety and proper fundamentals. All members are extremely friendly, with a good focus on teamwork. They are equally fantastic with the children's classes. My 6-year-old son trains here, and the coaches are incredibly patient, encouraging, and structured with the kids. They make learning Jiu-Jitsu incredibly fun while instilling respect and discipline. The mats are always spotlessly clean, too. Highly recommended for anyone!

They started at just 5 and 6 years old, coming from a background of dancing and gymnastics. They were both quite nervous about trying something that can look intimidating from the outside, but the coaches completely won them over from day one.Special mention to Andrew and Beth – their high level of coaching and genuine dedication to the children is exceptional. They’ve created a truly safe, supportive, and fun environment where every kid feels included and valued. My “girly girls” quickly bought into the team ethos and now look forward to every single session. My daughter began her journey here with Andrew and the team just short of 2 years ago now. She has completely flourished into a more confident and outgoing person. She has made some amazing friends here, and under Andrew and the team’s guidance, coaching and encouragement, she is continuing to flourish in and out of the club. Both my children have recently started at Blackbeard jiu jitsu. My 9 years loves it and got stuck straight in, but my 7 year old needs a little more encouraging. My son Corey has been attending the teens class on Mondays. Andrew and his coaches are fantastic. The Gym is great and the other teens are brilliant. Very friendly and welcoming place. BJJ is teaching my son valuable life lessons which will help him thrive in life. Andrew’s attitude towards teaching is top class. We recently transitioned our son to Blackbeard for his Jiu Jitsu training, and the difference has been incredible! Andrew is a fantastic Coach! As a second venue we’ve tried, we really appreciate the structured, technique-driven classes.Andrew is very patient, highly skilled, and knows exactly how to keep the kids engaged while focusing on fundamentals like discipline and respect. I originally started by bringing my 8 year old son to the kids classes for fitness, confidence and discipline. Having been reluctant to take part in any kind of sport Ben agreed to try and has never looked back, Andrew and the team have given him the confidence to not only thrive in BJJ but also to try other sports.More recently I attended the adult beginners course, 6 weeks learning the basics of BJJ, each class delivered by Andrew and an assistant. Small classes and lots of coaching with likeminded adults looking to learn something new. Absolutely loved it and have since joined the main class program. Not only is the coaching top notch but the community Andrew has built are incredibly supportive and helpful. I would highly recommend Blackbeard BJJ not only for those wanting to learn Jiu Jitsu but to anyone looking to get fit, be involved in a supportive community or try something new. After much persuasion in getting my 9 year old son Ethan to give jiu-jitsu a go with Andrew at Blackbeard jiu-jitsu he finally gave it ago and he absolutely loves it.After being slightly nervous and apprehensive at the begining he was made to feel welcome and at ease by Andrew, the coaches, and also the other children in his class.His confidence has grown so much and all he talks about is what he has learnt in class and how everybody in the class help each other. Brought my 7 year old down to Blackbeard Jiu Jitsu and he loved it! Andrew and the team are so welcoming and fun for the kids. He immediately made Arthur feel welcome and the sessions are fun and engaging.You can see that everyone involved in Blackbeard are kind and compassionate. Even down to watching the next class interact with each other. I’ve done nothing but sing this places praises and my little boy is only at the start of his journey.Would recommend to anyone wanting to get their child involved in martial arts.

Brilliant place to train and learn bjj, everybody helps each other and nothing is too much to ask. Recently brought my 5 years old to start training and she absolutely loves it. Coaches are approachable and friendly and the older girls in the class took her under their wing and helped her along the way.
