The woman we spoke with was kind and offered to replace them the next day.The following morning, my husband and I brought the uneaten conchas back to the store. We spoke with the owner’s son, who was very polite and understanding. He offered to exchange the batch for fresh ones. However, when the owner approached and asked what the issue was, the tone of the conversation completely shifted. After explaining that the conchas tasted burnt, he immediately became defensive and began arguing with us, insisting they were not burnt and implying we didn’t know what a concha should taste like.As a Hispanic woman from South Texas with a Mexican-American background, I assure you I do. Unfortunately, the owner dismissed our feedback entirely and was not open to hearing our perspective. What should have been a simple exchange turned into a frustrating confrontation. To make matters worse, he asked me not to leave a negative review…again.I want to acknowledge that language barriers can sometimes lead to misunderstandings. However, that does not excuse raising your voice at a customer or displaying dismissive and aggressive body language.If a customer’s review influences how they’re treated, that’s a serious concern. Negative feedback—when given respectfully—should be an opportunity to reflect and improve, not a trigger for hostility. If I understood the young gentleman correctly, this is a family-owned business. All I can say is GREAT JOB! I stopped by La Concha Bakery & Coffee in search of what I now know as a cortado, and it was amazing. I also tried the almond coffee cake, which is so deliciously sweet and moist. If I understood the young gentleman correctly, this is a family-owned business. All I can say is GREAT JOB! I stopped by La Concha Bakery & Coffee in search of what I now know as a cortado, and it was amazing. I also tried the almond coffee cake, which is so deliciously sweet and moist. However, the best part of my visit was being able to witness all the beautiful pastries and breads being prepared as soon as you come through the entrance. I love to see the passion that goes into the food that I'm purchasing. Additionally, everyone was so very kind and appreciative, including the baker.I stopped by the very next day to try one of their ham and cheese croissants. MUY RICO! I was impressed by the clean and modern environment, and even more so with the food.I purchased a delicious Nutella-stuffed croissant that was so tempting I had to eat its buttery-layered goodness on the car ride home; it exceeded all expectations from croissants I've had in the past. I was delighted to the fact that the conchas and marranitos were still warm from the oven even after my drive back home; these were quickly devoured alongside their authentic Colombian coffee which perfectly balances the sweetness of the pastries.We haven't tried the sandwiches on freshly baked focaccia and Italian loaves yet, but I can tell they are going to be just as good. This bakery is sure to become a local's haven for authentic Hispanic and European style baked goods! My only regret was not coming a little later (around 8:30am) to allow the cafe more time to open, but that's probably a good thing for my gut or I would have bought literally one of everything. Less
