I can’t recommend this gym because the lack of cleanliness was impossible to ignore. It wasn’t just that the facility looked dirty—the mats were often in poor condition, and I personally saw fingernail clippings on the training mats multiple times. In a full-contact sport where everyone is rolling on the same surface, that’s completely unacceptable. What made the experience even more concerning were the repeated reminders about ringworm and other skin infections. Instead of making me feel reassured, it raised questions about whether hygiene issues were being properly addressed. A gym shouldn’t have members worrying about picking up a skin infection every time they train.Another issue was the locker room and changing situation. It wasn’t uncommon for female members to change out of their training clothes in the open training area or in view of male members rather than in a private changing space. Regardless of the reason, it created an uncomfortable environment and reflected a lack of clear policies or adequate facilities.Cleanliness and professionalism are two of the most basic responsibilities of any BJJ academy, and I don’t feel this gym met either standard. There may be talented instructors and good training partners, but that doesn’t outweigh an environment where sanitation and member comfort seem to be an afterthought. If you value a clean, professional, and comfortable place to train, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.
