James has been teaching myself and my two children gir the last three years requiring him to manage our different levels of experience and motivation to successfully guide us through our exams. He strikes a good balance between focus, discipline and fun encouraging a broader appreciation of piano through his knowledge and passion for music. I find it helpful the James always gives a contextual response to my questions inspiring me to learn more about music styles and theory to complement my practical piano playing. Been with James for around a year now. At first we went though some grade 1-3 music books which helped teach me good technique with his oversight. That gave me a great foundation and I have since learned all of the major scales and most of the minors.James also let me compile a list of pieces I wanted to learn and each lesson we progress one or some of them. I can now play numerous difficult pieces that I wasn't sure I would ever be able to do!I also like that he travels to me making it really stress free and I think it's a bonus learning on the instrument I will also practice on.
