I found this gym on class pass. I've been going through a really hard time and have been looking into martial arts to gain my power back. I've tried a few other toxic masculine gyms, and didn't feel safe. So when I saw this was women owned I felt like maybe I could be safe here. Took a few classes and enjoyed the instructors. Today after class, the owner came up to me guns blaring accusing me of stealing classes...as class pass didn't show up on her side. I was mortified. I would never steal classes from a gym...as a fitness instructor as well...i know how hard it is to make a living teaching fitness. I had been using class pass and the instructor i had the first day, Ben said I could use the free pass they offer anyway, so I did. That was it.. She also started shaming me about not wearing the proper attire for class, when the instructor told me what I was wearing was fine BTW.. he walked away during this.. leaving me to take all the heat from the owner, not taking ownership that he told me this was okay. I don't even know this women mind you. She never asked, why I was interested in martial arts... healing through trauma, learning how to keep myself safe, or taken back power that was taken from me. She was just totally concerned about money...she was short with me, bitter and scolded me publicly like a child.I usually don't post bad reviews, but this was not okay. As most martial arts are male dominated it can be very intimidating to walk into a martial arts gym as a small framed female... left the gym crying. Will not be back. Felt very We Don't Want You, just your money vibes...the world is already a battle field for women.. I don't need to be attacked for trying to learn to defend myself in a place that I'm trying to learn to be safe. Not a safe place for women who have experienced trauma or abuse. Not the energy I need in my life. You can tell in the response from the gym how little they care about their clients. First there are NO SIGNS saying filming isn't allow, I asked and gained consent from everyone including the instructors. If you're going say that, inform your instructors of your policy. As I do have a recording and got concent in filming, I will continue to share on why your gym is NOT inclusive or welcoming. In terms of the class, I have video proof of me being respectful, asking questions and being positive. I can publicly post for reference.I asked to film, this class the instructor told me not to. I respectful understood. I am however curious on your policy of having a male instructor and beginner female student in the gym alone together. Learning a combat sport...What if something happened to me.. he is clearly bigger and stronger then me... what is your policy on women's safety in your gym in this situation?Do you as the owner have something set up to prevent rape or assault in this situation? I'm pretty sure safety standards require one other person present for this reason... am I wrong?I'm not sure why you came at me with such hateful and aggressive energy. But it was by far one of the worst experiences I've had at a gym so far.
