We didn't want to pay for insurance when we retired and John customized a plan where the premiums will stop before retirement but the insurance with dividends will continue. The policy also contained what John called "Living Benefits". These benefits cover us for chronic illness, critical injury, critical and terminal illness, all included in our policy. Due to my tax bracket, I am subject to Medicare surcharges on my Medicare Parts B and D of approximately $500 per month plus the price of a Medicare supplement and a drug plan, which would have easily been $800 per month. By avoiding those fees for the last five years, I have enjoyed considerable savings. This is money that I would much rather put into my retirement account than waste on unnecessary charges.
